What exactly is Creative Copywriting?

Do a Google search on Creative Copywriting and you’ll get lots of different answers. But for me it’s two things.

One — it’s an approach to copywriting that blends marketing and storytelling to create copy that entertains and sells. It’s an approach which leverages the strength of digital and the power of social. It’s an approach where the writing is true to your brand, sparkles with personality and calls a reader to action.

Two — it’s a specialty: entertainment industry marketing. That is, writing great copy to promote movies, TV series and video games. Theatrical, broadcast and home entertainment clients have very specific needs. The “story” has already been told. My job as a writer is to “retell” that story in short, creative bursts so that you (the reader/viewer) will go see, stream or buy it. I’ve got to intrigue you, and inspire you… without giving away the plot! It’s an art form. And I love it!

I'm the go-to development writer for Picture Road Productions, a Lincoln Square / Disney / ABC Television Group company. As producers and network executives, Picture Road's principals have overseen a combined 1000+ hours of programming for the likes of HGTV, DIY Network, Food Network, Travel Channel, MTV, VH1, GSN, ESPN, Lifetime and G4.

And when they've got a bold new show idea and want a punchy one-sheet or compelling treatment to help sell it... they call me!
